Practice-led innovation supported by science and market-driven actors in the laying hen and other livestock sectors
HORIZON 2020 ISIB-02-2014 project, Grant no. 652638
The Hennovation project demonstrated the potential of innovation led by farmers and industry practices in two areas of concern, Injurious Pecking and End-of-Lay, during transport and at the abattoir. In total 19 innovation networks proactively searched for and utilized new ideas to make their business more efficient and sustainable. The Hennovation project produced a variety of technical resources based on the latest scientific knowledge related to feather pecking and EoL as well as the newly co-produced knowledge by the innovation networks. All materials can be found on the webpages under the Technical Resources tab:
•Have a look on the HenHub - www.HenHub.eu - the Hennovation knowledge hub with technical information on feather pecking and the End-of-Lay.
•Extension guidelines on feather pecking and End-of-Lay were developed by the project to provide veterinarians and advisors with up to date technical knowledge.
•An online CPD course on feather pecking and End-of-Lay was developed for veterinary and agricultural students and the Continuous Professional Development of advisors working in the poultry sector
•Based on the innovative ideas tested by the innovation networks 38 Practice Abstracts and an additional five technical notes were developed to share the results with other farmers and the processing industry (end-users’ materials).
•On the Hennovation YouTube channel all audio-visual materials produced by the project can be found - www.youtube.com/channel/UCjiyWooElViqUlzoEjy4oyA
In June 2017 a webinar was organised to share the results of the work of various networks on monitoring and reducing infestations of Poultry Red mite. The video of the webinar as well as a pdf of the chat are available on the HenHub - www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sXApkAx-cI&feature=youtu.be.
